Well well well.....

The other PMA subdivisions are also gone from their respective places online. They all point to a common new (error) page with articles that seem to be mostly about the CEO. Possibly just a poorly executed conversion, without consulting others or considering the big picture? There have been no communications that im aware of.

However... I'd give it another day or so to get sorted, before jumping to any conclusions... Hopefully we have not been overlooked.

Mike

Ps: This member forum is hosted on a different server and will remain functioning during the growing pains of the new PMA/PPFA sites.

Sometimes, I am amazed at how little importance websites are given in this day and age.

A hosting service (for a local non-profit website that I operate) sent me a notice that the website would be down for several hours while they upgrade their server. Did they move a the hosted sites to a different server so the sites would all remain up during the upgrade? No. They just disabled everyone's websites without a second thought. Lame.

Not impressed with the IT decisions of the PMA people either.

I know banks have more money... but...

I have a small account at a national bank. For about a month I have been getting regular email and banner updates about their name change, change in URL and website to come, etc. Today I got an email with a link to a preview of the new look. Everything that I actually use is still where it always was, just with a new look.

Also the news, if I make a mistake and link to the old URL, I will be forwarded to the new site with a banner telling me to bookmark the new site, etc.

Much, much better than just getting a dead link or and "oops" when visiting a site that has existed for over a decade now...

A picture framer looking for other picture framers would think we were gone if they looked for the PPFA site.

Cue the Jeopardy music...
Mike, I don't think anyone is jumping to conclusions. The conclusion was arrived at after certain deliberation, but we should wait to see what the morrow brings.

Could be ineptness, could be worse. I agree, we have a deadline, let's stick to it.

From the Home Page:

We are currently working to bring you a new website that will allow you to connect with the PMA communities you are most interested in.
(emphasis mine)

While I agree that notice would have been "nice", and this comes at a time where it would be way to easy to think the worst, I also agree that we should wait until the "communities" are back up before making any further judgements.

BTW, we have an entire "test" site where we do all our updates and changes. Once everything works, or the time has come, we copy to the live site. There is no reason IMO for a site, especially one as big as the PMA, to be down for more than a few minutes.

Ironically, I had just been to the PPFA site two days ago looking for an online membership application (which I could not locate and don't think it existed). I have since been to the TEMP PMI webpage and agree with all that changes should have been executed off-line and made live and active with a switch.

Currently this means that everyone you has links to the PPFA main webpage or PPFA's Find-A-Framer links to a blank page. Not good! Not Professional by any means.

If chapter leaders need something let me know or any board member know and we will help get the information. I was not aware they were doing anything with the website until the end of the month. Which is what the letter they sent also alluded to. Oh well, sorry for the inconvenience.

IMHO this kind of thing will continue to occur as long as people who don't take the trouble to understand us are in charge of our fate. Let's hope for some positive change.
