Which PPFA Benefits matter MOST to you? (Select up to 5 that matter most)?

Healthy discussion welcomed!

This is a quick and anonymous survey. The results will be compiled and posted, once it has expired.

FYI I would like to see a poll about our business, are you a Family business, Mom and Pop, Parent and Child, Sibling, Generational, or none. In framing it seems to be a high than normal amount of our shops are family business so I would be curious what the make up is.

FYI in the above poll I would consider education and chapter events one in the same. Also there is no mention of the competitions.

We are always looking for new ideas for surveys. I will make a note of that , so it can be run in the coming months.
Thank you

The competition benefits my store the most. The ability to display ribbons generates conversations about excellence in custom framing and produces sales.

Like Myrna the competition benefits my store the most. I would have to rank it my #1 benefit. I have collected quite a few ribbons that are displays along side the pieces in my store and they never fail to impress. I have gotten a lot of radio and TV coverage in my local market.

I would hate to see the competition go away.

Randy, I consider chapter events and education as two separate items, because education can include some of the standards and guidelines such as those for mats, framing textiles, guidelines for paper etc.

Chapter events are often more social and while they can include some education, they also provide methods for meeting other framers so you can find sources for getting future questions answered.

Meeting and Networking with Framers and Competition are two more of my best benefits. Good question and it will be interesting to see how people vote!

Competitions are huge, and I'm kicking myself for accidentally leaving it off the list. It would be near the top of the results, IMO. But let's consider that one assumed, and work with the rest :)

It's still interesting to see what each of us get from PPFA, which may help shape the future direction it takes.

Mike,

I just replied to your PM... and got the message that my mailbox was full, so I deleted old stuff and resent you a PM... to which I got the message that YOUR mailbox was full. ::mmph:

Cheers,

John

Yes I am going to clear some space up now. Email is always best :)

Interesting to me that only one person (me) has selected the Insurance Discount.

I'm wondering if it's because the other items are just so huge to people, or if there is not real awareness of the insurance program and the financial benefit from it.

Good point David. The Insurance program is wonderful. It saves me more than my dues each year. I think there are many that is does not work for, as in Wally's case, or they have not taken time to get a quote. I would like to see more programs like this. I know they will not help everyone but if one or two help each member it is a Great Advantage.

I agree with John Barlow (and Mike) that the competitions are both a great learning tool and a method of promoting your skills/shop. While I have advocated for several years that chapters should use a "bring your best display project" for a popular choice contest to involve more members. From what I have read, it seems to bring out those who want to show off their work but just not have as many rules as the regular PPFA contests. I would hate to see the competitions disappear, because of the costs involved with the events, both on a chapter and national level. :sorrow:

I also see the competitions as one of the most significant benefits. I am not in favor of refocusing the competitions as a framing beauty pageant. The balance of conservation, approved practices, workmanship, and design are important to differentiate this competition from the "wow design" framing contests is important for both maintaining the value and credibility of a "professional framing competition" and as a learning experience. If you want to throw out the rules for a fancy design enter the Design Star. There ought to be at least one serious framing competition and it ought to be ours. As far as I'm concerned, being recognized in the PPFA competition is far more indicative of overall framing skill.

While it isn't necessarily a current benefit, I would like to see PPFA take on a greater role promoting the industry to the public. Trade group campaigns like "Pork, the Other White Meat", "Got Milk?", and Juan Valdez have all helped foster the image of their respective industries, raise merchant visibility, and increase overall sales. We may not have the budget to do huge advertising campaigns such as these. But we could do things through our chapters, and in conjunction with the international conferences, that put us in front of the public. Our framing competitions should not be held in small conference rooms. They need to be in public places with promotion and high visibility. We can do displays and presentations at home shows, art fairs, and other places attended by large numbers of people. Ask not what PPFA can do for you, ask what you and other PPFA members can do to promote your industry!

Who came up with GOT MILK?

(stylized as got milk?) was an American advertising campaign encouraging the consumption of cow's milk, which was created by the advertising agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners for the California Milk Processor Board in 1993 and later licensed for use by milk processors and dairy farmers.

My point is it was funded by the industry not the a trade organization.

I don't believe there is an equivalent in picture framing.

Per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Milk_Processor_Board

The California Milk Processor Board is a nonprofit marketing board funded by California dairy processors...

Sound more like a trade association than anything else. Unless membership is compulsory, which it does not appear to be.
