Hi Everyone,

If you are a member of the Mailbox Chapter (Domestic or International) and need information about entering the competition please go to www.ppfa.com and go to the Competition Tab. Click on the tab and the entry forms are on this page under Mailbox Framing Competition. The same forms are used for Domestic and International (the pieces will be separated accordingly at the judging site).

The Mailbox competitions will be judged in Las Vegas Prior to the International Competition Judging. If you enter the mailbox competition, win and wish to enter the International Competition you will need to submit the proper paperwork for International Competition also. You need to submit the paperwork for both competitions at the same time. If your piece is eligible for the International Competition then the International Entry paperwork will be processed and credit card charged for the International entry fee only at that time.

If you need the International paper work Please see the Thread on International Competitions Information and Reminders

Thanks and Good Luck,
Robin

Thanks Robin,
Now, as I understand it, members who live in a chapter and whose chapter organizes its own competition, these entrants will have to ship their framed entry to the local judging venue.
After the competition, the framed entries will be shipped back to the candidate, regardless of whether a candidate won anything or not.

Then for those who won a placing at local level will have the opportunity to send their entry again, but this time to Las Vegas.

Those who enter at the Mailbox-level will send their entries to Jackson from where it will be sent to Las Vegas free of charge for judging at the mailbox level. I assume the judges for the Mailbox will be the same as those for the International.

Since some chapters have few entries for the competition and some complain about this fact, can we not do away with judging at chapter-level and have all entries sent to Las Vegas for a combined judging?

Kai,

Chapters organize a competition. Sometimes there are not many entries but this is the way it is currently set up. Most people hand deliver their chapter entries to the competition or designated delivery site or are able to arrange transportation via a friend or supplier so there is not cost for shipping. But yes some people do ship their pieces to the Chapter competition. At the end of the Chapter competition the Chapter Winners are then qualified to enter the International competition which does require them to ship their piece to the designated location for the International Competition. This is stated on the Entry Form
DO NOT SHIP YOUR FRAMED COMPETITION ENTRY TO PPFA
Shipping your entry to PPFA will result in it not being included in the International Competition.
The shipping instructions are being finalized and will be posted as soon as they are finalized.

For Mailbox entries, Domestic and International Mailbox members, from the entry form for Mailbox competition Shipping instructions will be provided separately, upon receipt of registration The shipping instructions are being finalized and will be posted as soon as they are finalized. DO NOT SHIP PIECES TO PPFA.

The Judges for Mailbox ARE NOT the Judges for International. The International Judges are not allowed to see the Mailbox entries. The Mailbox entries are Chapter Entries and International Judges are not allowed to judge or see Chapter entries. If the International Judges do see or judge at the Chapter level the judge is disqualified at the International Level. So International Judges have explicit instructions to AVOID AT ALL COST Chapter competitions.

The competitions at the Chapter Level are considered a Qualifying round for the International Competition. The International Judging takes Many, Many hours of work on the part of Judges (I have seen them start at 7am and not finish til 10pm or later). We want people to enter at the local level then advance to the International level. Even at the International level you do not have everyone that is eligible to compete actually enter and compete so sending everything to one location for combined judging is not the answer. Sorry! As others have stated there are many reasons people do not enter Chapter competitions but it is ultimately up to the PPFA Member to decide if they want to compete or not.

I hope this helps clear up some of the questions. If you have anymore Please let me know.

Thanks Robin

Just a note to say thanks to all, for the hours that those on the competition judging (and preparation) take.

And at the international level, they spend their own money to go to the PPFA (and WCAF) and instead of spending all of their time taking classes and working the trade show, they spend hours and hours and hours judging.

I have seen a few of the judges walking around after the judging, and wow, they look exhausted.

Thanks to all.

Hi Everyone,

If you are a member of the Mailbox Chapter (Domestic or International) and need information about entering the competition please go to www.ppfa.com and go to the Competition Tab. Click on the tab and the entry forms are on this page under Mailbox Framing Competition.

Robin, I might very well be blind but I have been to the PPFA - Competition Tab and I'll be darn if I can find anything that says Mailbox Framing Competition. :noidea: Thanks for any directions to find it.

John,

No Worries. I have to look for it myself. Wish I could figure out a way to make it more visible, but once you click on the competitions tab you will be directed to a page that has the current years piece pictured. Under that is some information then a little farther down is a Bold header saying Mailbox framing competitions. It is below the image and above the Framing competition Downloadable Forms

Hope this helps, let me know if you still have problems finding it.

This is from the page:
